One 717 gets pushback in the commuter terminal.

The Honolulu (OahuAir) Commuter Terminal is a passenger terminal at Honolulu Airport in Airport Hero Honolulu.

Terminal Information

Description

As the name suggests, this terminal is reserved for OahuAir flights bound for other Hawaiian islands. These flights are often used for commuters.

The terminal itself is situated in the northwest pocket of the airport. It is connected to Terminal 1, but they are classified as separate terminals since only OahuAir Boeing 717s are permitted to park here. There are just four gates, and although there are (on average) 1-2 flights here per stage, this terminal seldom gets crowded.

In the real Honolulu airport, there is a regional section dedicated to island-hopping flights. In addition, since there are no budget airlines here, it is not classified as an LCC (low-cost carrier) terminal.

Control

While this area may not get busy, it can still be difficult to control in. The main issue is that it is right next to the far busier Terminal 1. The nearest runway is 8L, which puts in the path of larger aircraft also needing to use the runway. The easiest option is to put them on runway 8L, but if it is too crowded, flights can cross 8L and proceed to 8R instead.

It requires more runway crossings, but arrivals and departures from the commuter terminal can also take the inner taxiways and use runways 4L and 4R.
